What happened to Brandon Clarke? Memphis Grizzlies star dies aged 29
NBA fans across the globe are waking up to the terrible news of Grizzlies star Brandon Clarke dying aged 29. His agency confirmed his demise in a statement dated 12th May. The 21st pick in 2019 NBA draft had a thriving career but was injured this entire season. He spent his entire NBA career in Memphis with the Grizzlies. This year, first he suffered a knee injury and then a calf injury that ruled him out of the season.
Nobody expected this sudden demise of one of the most promising players in the NBA and everyone is still unclear regarding the cause of his death.
Brandon Clarke cause of death unclear
The cause of death for Grizzlies forward is still unclear. He featured in only two games during the 2025-26 season. Grizzlies issued the following statement:
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke. Brandon was an outstanding teammate and even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Brandon Clarke also had his own foundation, which helped families struck by terrible tragedies. His charity also donated to several NGOs that helped the underprivileged. The Canadian had spent his pre-NBA career at San Jose State and Gonzaga. He was also one of the most veteran players at the Grizzlies. Ja Morant and other teammates of his are shocked by the sudden passing and will support the family in whatever way possible.
Brandon Clarke’s life didn’t come with any less controversies as he was arrested in Arkansas on April 1 for possession of banned substances. The NBA family is devasted by the loss of his life.
