One nickname is used to refer to some of the most recognizable Brazilian international players. Players from Brazil who play football, such as Pele, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, and Neymar, have long adhered to the custom of using just one name. Here is Why do Brazilian footballers use one name?

Instead of using their first name and last name, as is customary in other mostly Western cultural naming systems, Brazilian players tend to go by just one name. One of the most well-known current bearers of the name is Neymar, whose own real identity is Neymar da Silva Santos Junior but who is more often known as Neymar Jr.

In other words, there is no particular cultural justification for some Brazilian football players to want to use a single name when the majority of Brazilians already do.

Most often, this is because players in Brazil like to abbreviate their names or opt for nicknames to be more readily recognized by their foreign supporters. This is because the majority of Brazilian real full names are intricate and lengthy.

Most Brazilians have just one name, and many of them base it upon their first name, surname name, a combination of the two, or an unconnected nickname. It’s not only Brazilian football players that do this. Brazil still follows Portuguese name customs despite no longer being a Portuguese territory.

People are given four names according to these traditions: their given name, which frequently consists of two letters to accommodate a saint’s name and/or a prefix (such as da, das, do, dos, or de), the mother’s surname name, and finally the father’s last name. The creation of a nickname based on the parents’ first names is customary in several regions of Brazil.
