Southampton have rocketed to the top of the Premier League table after they secured a 2-0 win against visitors Newcastle United. The Saints have the second most Premier League wins out of any teams in the 2020 calendar year, and have been impressive this season.

Southampton had Danny Ings out of the match with a lengthy injury, but his striker partner Che Adams was on hand to score early on. Stuart Armstrong added their second 8 minutes from time. With 16 points from 8 games, Southampton lead Liverpool on goal difference although the Saints have played a game more. Newcastle, on the other hand, find themselves in 13th, with 11 points from 8 matches.

Bruno Fernandes scored twice and assisted one in Manchester United‘s 3-1 away win against Everton. The hosts scored first through Bernard but Fernandes equalized shortly after. New signing Edinson Cavani scored in the 95th minute to score his first goal in England.

It was another great display from United’s midfield as Everton faded after the first 20 minutes of the match. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was Everton’s best player yet again as the towering Englishman won 9 aerial duels. The result takes United up to 13th in the table, while Everton’s third league loss in a row means they find themselves in 5th.

Three London clubs win in yesterday’s football match results

Chelsea completed a sublime comeback to win 4-1 against visitors Sheffield United. The Blades opened the scoring after the 9th minute, but Chelsea dominated the game from thereon. Goals from striking duo Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner, and a first goal for Thiago Silva in England meant three points for the Blues. Chelsea are now 3rd in the table while Sheffield United are rock bottom with just 1 points from 8 games.

In another 4-1 home win for a London side, Crystal Palace beat Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United. The game featured a controversial moment as Patrick Bamford’s goal was ruled out for offside, but Palace proved to be good on the day for Leeds. Both centre-backs for Palace got on the scoresheet and Ayew’s 70th minute goal meant Palace scored 4 goals for the first time this season.

A 92nd minute goal from Czech midfielder Thomas Soucek and a 98th minute missed penalty from Fulham’s Ademola Lookman meant all three points for West Ham United. The win takes West Ham to 11th while Fulham are left reeling in 17th place, just above the relegation zone.
