Will Neymar Leave Al Hilal? Preview

El Nacional reports that former FC Barcelona player Neymar has decided to return to his first club, Santos, once his contract with Al-Hilal expires in 2025. The Brazilian left Paris Saint-Germain last summer in a move that might have cost as much as $109 million (£86 million) to join the Saudi Pro League squad, according to The Guardian.

For his new employers, he was only able to participate in five games across all tournaments until an unfortunate event occurred during his overseas assignment in October. In addition to bidding farewell to the remainder of the season and the Copa America in the US, where Brazil will try to reclaim its 2019 championship after losing it to holders and fierce rivals Argentina, Neymar tore his meniscus and ACL during a 2-0 WC qualification loss to Uruguay.

But Neymar has already made up his mind, according to El Nacional, to move back to his birthplace of early childhood at the age of 11, once his two-year contract ends in Saudi Arabia. If the vanquished Titans can make it back to the top division in Brazil, the Serie A, Neymar may join another team in the middle of 2025, just as the South American football season is getting going.

The recent hire of Dorival Jr. as manager of the Brazil national team, who is presently in Europe monitoring players like Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, Vitor Roque, and Raphinha, would not be disapproving of this transaction. Needless to say, though, Neymar would have to drastically cut his current take-home income to return to Santos, where he has recently attended games.

With on-field earnings of $80 million, he finished third on Forbes’ list of the World’s Highest-Paid Soccer Players in 2023. His earnings are so high that even elite European teams, much alone those in his native country, cannot match them.
