Liverpool are keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, who is expected to cost €90 million. With James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita all departing the Reds as free agents this summer, Jurgen Klopp is seeking to acquire at least two more midfielders.
This summer, several midfielders have been linked with moves away from Anfield after their position was cited as a big component in Liverpool’s disappointing season. Alexis Mac Allister was recently signed to the Premier League in a £35 million deal from Brighton after a good season with the Seagulls and Argentina, the side with which he won the World Cup in the winter.
Furthermore, the Spanish tabloid Nacional stated yesterday that the Reds have made Real Madrid star Valverde a priority target for this summer and are willing to pay €70 million for him to join them. They suggested that the Uruguayan international, who has also been linked with Manchester United, “can become the explosive player of the summer” owing to the possibility of his “surprise” move from Real Madrid.
Under Carlo Ancelotti, the 24-year-old has begun to fall the pecking order, with the preferred three midfielders for Real Madrid being newcomer Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, and either Toni Kroos or Luka Modric. Now, Nacional is reporting that Jurgen Klopp’s side has boosted their offer for Valverde from €70 million to €90 million, with Los Blancos chairman Perez contemplating accepting their latest offer.
Liverpool “can profit from the uncertainty surrounding the Uruguayan international,” as Madrid finds it “very difficult to reject” their most recent offer. According to the publication, Valverde may be the “sacrifice” that Real Madrid has to make to pursue Kylian Mbappe this summer.
The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. However, considering that Valverde “does not appear ready to depart Real Madrid under any circumstances,” Liverpool may struggle to persuade him to move from the Bernabeu to Anfield.
