Will Jose Mourinho Leave Roma? Preview
In the forthcoming 2023–24 season, speculation regarding who will man the PSG bench is only going to intensify. Christophe Galtier is probably going to be fired after Saturday’s game, and Jose Mourinho’s name has surfaced in rumours since the current season is about to come to an end.
In the hours leading up to Mourinho’s AS Roma’s Europa League final against Sevilla, rumours that the Portuguese coach would “100% leave Roma with a victory, and 80% following a defeat” began to circulate loudly. The two front-runners to take over the PSG touchline beginning in July are thought to be Luis Enrique and Mourinho at the time of this writing. Enrique, who is presently jobless and has recently been linked to Napoli, and Mourinho, who has a deal with Roma through 2024 but is apparently considering leaving as soon as this month, are both under contract at their respective clubs.
Jose Mourinho had the chance of a lifetime to win another European trophy with Roma and complete a hat trick of victories in the Italian city after winning the Europa Conference League last year. But it was not written in the cards. After a 1-1 draw in the regular time against Sevilla, the Europa League championship match ultimately saw Mourinho’s team fall to their Spanish opponents 1-4 in the penalty shootout.
The 60-year-old boss talked about his future with Sky Italia after the game. While he didn’t completely rule out continuing at Roma for an additional campaign, he stressed the need of having a more competitive squad and put pressure on the club’s management.

“I would like to stay, but only if I can get more help,” Mourinho said. “With the owners, I have been honest. They will be the first to hear about any conversations or contacts from other clubs. I told them about the interest from the Portuguese national squad back in December, but nothing happened.”
“The present scenario is that I still have one year left on my contract. Even if I want to stay, my players and I are entitled to more. I’m getting bored of being a coach and a communicator, as well as someone who always complains about being robbed and does everything by myself. I want to stay, but I also want to make sure I have more support.” Jose Mourinho added.
Roma’s exclusion from the Champions League the following season is not something Mourinho considers to be a setback. He views it as a good sign because the board of Roma has not made significant investments in the club’s growth, which is largely why he thinks the team is not yet able to compete at the Champions League level.
Due to his friendship with sports agent Luis Campos, who is anxious to get the renowned coach to Paris as quickly as possible, Mourinho is the leading contender to take over the PSG bench in the forthcoming season. As he stated after the Finals game, Mourinho’s ultimate choice is not anticipated until after his holiday.
The Portuguese manager informed the reporters that he would put off making a choice until after he returned from a little holiday if he didn’t hear something by Monday. We would also like to add that, Jose Mourinho will be eyeing the Managerial of his Home Country, Portugal as well.
