Will Carlo Ancelotti go to jail? Former Real Madrid Manager sentenced for tax evasion
Brazil Manager and former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has been handed jail term for tax evasion in Spain. He is accused of evading 1m Euros in taxes during his first stint as Real Madrid manager from 2013 to 2015. In this article, we explore if Carlo Ancelotti will be going to prison for tax fraud.
Will Carlo Ancelotti go to jail?
While Carlo Ancelotti will not go to jail, he will have to pay a fine of 386,361.93 euros, which is going to be non-negotiable. He has been sentenced for one year, and Spanish law clearly says that sentences under 2 years falling under a non-violent crime rarely require defendants without previous convictions to serve jail time. This means Carlo Ancelotti will not be going to jail after all. He has already paid back the debt in 2021 and will just need to pay the fine now.

Ancelotti previously testified in the quote the follows:
“I never thought about committing fraud. I thought it was quite normal because at that time all the players and the previous coach had”.
Not to forget, Ancelotti was offered a salary of 6m Euros and it was up to him how he wants to break it down. Carlo Ancelotti is not the only one who has been found guilty of evading taxes. Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo have both been found guilty of evading taxes and have had to pay subsequent fines. Both were given no-prison sentences and were let go from the crimes.
Ancelotti has previously also been involved in tax-related controversies. This is common in Spanish football, where the laws are strict but rules are flexible. Ancelotti is currently the manager of the Brazilian National Team, where he will also be leading their charge for FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.
