Will Calvert-Lewin start for Everton? Predicting the big return of Everton’s famed No. 9

Everton manager Rafa Benitez was furious after the Premier League rejected the Toffees’ request to postpone their clash with Burnley, fearing he may have to rush back his star striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The fixture has since been postponed though and so here we are to answer your next question, will Calvert-Lewin start for Everton, at Alley Sport, all for you!
The story of Everton’s No. 9- Will Calvert-Lewin start for Everton?
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was a major presence for Everton last season, then under Carlo Ancelotti, as he enjoyed a stellar run of form early in the campaign. His hold up play was excellent and it seemed like every cross that reached him was destined for the net. Such was his towering presence, the Englishman scored 21 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.
This season as well, the 24-year-old had scored in each of his three Premier League appearances this campaign. Brazilian striker Richarlison benefitted from bouncing balls off the Englishman as well, as the duo combined to deadly effect early in the season. However, DCL, as the Everton faithful call him, suffered a serious toe injury in August which has seen him ruled out for well over 3 months now.

The Latest on will Calvert-Lewin start for Everton
Everton have severely suffered from a lack of fit players in their squad thanks to both COVID as well as injuries. The Toffees currently have a seriously limited roster of players to select from, with some U23s facing a call-up to the first-team, particularly in the attacking areas with the likes of Richarlison, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray all not available.
With the Premier League rejecting Everton’s request to postpone their meeting with Burnley, Everton manager Rafa Benitez conceded that he would have no choice but to rush Dominic Calvert-Lewin back from injury and force him to start despite not being fully fit. It thus looked to be the case that Calvert-Lewin would start against Burnley, however unfit he was, but the fixture has since been postponed presenting an opportunity for Benitez to rethink DCL’s return date.

The Big Return
Barring any miracle by which the whole Everton squad suddenly regains fitness, Everton’s star striker Dominic Calver-Lewin is set to start in Everton’s next scheduled fixture as things stand. That would have ideally come against Newcastle on the 30th of December at Goodison Park in the city of Liverpool. However, that fixture as well has since been postponed, meaning the striker should start now against Brighton on 2nd of January 2022.
It remains to be seen how much of an impact the long injury layoff has had on the Englishman. Everton fans have high expectations for the England international, however, we have already seen plenty of evidence that he can atleast meet, if not exceed those desires. If he comes back and hits the ground running instantly, the way he did towards the start of the past 2 seasons, supporters will no doubt be over the moon and targeting atleast a Europa League spot for their team again.
