Mauricio Pochettino made the bold call of taking off Lionel Messi against Lille during the half-time break. The Argentine forward had started the game with Neymar and Angel di Maria but was hooked at half-time with Lille leading. A goal by leading starlet from Canada, Jonathan David, was the difference.
And fans were surprised to see Mauro Icardi come out for the 34-year-old, 6-time Ballon d’Or winner in the second half. Many speculated what the reason for this could be. As it turns out, it was due to an apparent injury. The attacker was feeling his calf during the first half and was brought off for that reason.

It could be because of the lack of dependence on him, or him having to share the field with other goal-hungry superstars, or it’s just that this might be the beginning of the end for the greatest footballer we have ever seen. But for now, his focus must be on recovering from this injury and having a stellar season with PSG.
