In appreciation of his efforts to assist vulnerable children during the COVID-19 outbreak, Prince William has awarded Marcus Rashford the MBE. He was joined by his mother Melanie as the Manchester United and England striker accepted the honour on Tuesday at Windsor Castle.
The 25-year-old Rashford successfully lobbied the British government to provide underprivileged kids free school lunches while the school was in lockdown. During the summer and winter holidays, he compelled the administration to do two U-turns in order to prolong their support, and his campaign changed the law.
In October 2021, Rashford earned the MBE; it was the first in-person investiture ceremony since the epidemic began. The Duke of Cambridge presented Rashford with the distinction. His mother Melanie has encouraged his desire for social change through her own involvement with Manchester-area food banks.
Since then, Rashford has maintained his fight against food insecurity by establishing a task force that collaborates with significant British retailers and food banks. Rashford told reporters in front of Windsor Palace that there was still a lot of work to be done.
“We are far from where we want to be or where we believe the children should be. We simply need to persevere and go on. “An honour to spend the morning with you [Prince William], thank you for making the day so special for me and my mother,” the Manchester United player said on Twitter. I’m quite proud.
