Who Will Win The Euro 2024? Preview

The lack of a summer World Cup in 2022 meant that fans of European football would have to wait just eighteen months for big tournament football to make a comeback. That’s correct, Euro 2024 will take place in Germany and only Germany as the host nation, making it possibly the final tournament of its sort.

Although three spots in the tournament are still up for grabs and will be determined by the play-offs in March, we have known for quite some time how the group stage will look following the December draw. For this year’s Euros, we think France, Portugal, and England are the clear favourites.

Will football ever truly make a return home? You wouldn’t wager on Gareth Southgate’s team winning in Germany the next season, though. They have the skill and, as of right now, the experience, having advanced to the previous round of the European Championship. Read Who Will Win The Euro 2024? Till the End.

With two games remaining, qualification was assured with an incredible come-from-behind victory over Italy at Wembley. But even after finishing their campaign with two terrible games—against Malta and North Macedonia—some questions remain, mostly about the management.

They haven’t quite been at their best in 2023, which is concerning since they have maybe the most dynamic group of attackers in international football. Southgate has long been accused of his alleged conservatism. There are also worries that in-form players like Raheem Sterling may not make the team for Euro 2024 due to Southgate’s erratic selection methodology.

But with the simplest of draws, England could at least coast into the semi-finals, giving them a significant advantage against more fatigued adversaries assuming Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane are both healthy and on fire.

After a disastrous World Cup campaign that culminated in the well-known scene of a distraught and angry Cristiano Ronaldo storming down a stadium tunnel, Portugal’s situation couldn’t be better after replacing Fernando Santos with Roberto Martinez.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes combined for 16 goals as the Seleccao won all 10 of their Euro 2024 qualifying matches, allowing only two goals. In light of their abundance of attacking options and the fact that they are in one of the weaker pools, Portugal should be seriously considered as favourites to win in Germany the following summer.

Their only realistic opponent for the top spot in Group F is Turkey, regardless of the results of Play-off Path C. Martinez’s ability to perform in a major tournament is still unknown, considering how he let Belgium’s “Golden Generation” down. Portugal should advance without any issues, but it’s important to note that their qualifying group was appalling, making it difficult to assess their true strength.

The world’s top-ranked European squad at the moment, and for good reason. France has an incredibly talented group of players, including both youthful and seasoned players who have achieved success and experience. Number nine is the first choice. Read Who Will Win The Euro 2024? Till the End.

Even though Olivier Giroud is becoming older, this team is not without its shortcomings: Mike Maignan, the custodian, performs miracles. The defence is so strong that William Saliba isn’t a lock to start. The development of generational talent has strengthened the already fearsome midfield.

Link-man Warren Zaire-Emery While Kylian Mbappe is unquestionably the most dangerous forward in global football, Antoine Griezmann is playing at the peak of his abilities. Though Greece denied France a perfect qualifying record by holding a much-changed Bleus to a 2-2 draw in Athens, the 2022 World Cup runners-up won’t be afraid to take on the Dutch again in Germany after thrashing them both at home and away with remarkable ease.

Finally, we think that this summer will see a rematch of the 2016 Euro final. Unfancied Portugal stunned the French in Paris eight years ago with a long-range, added-time goal from unexpected hero Eder. There should be a little advantage in this final.

Certainly, with two pragmatists scavenging the touchline, things will get tight and closed off. Although anything may happen, we will believe Cristiano Ronaldo to lead his nation to victory over the former world champion.
