The Premier League is by far the most profitable and expensive league in world sports. The amount of rich English teams that now exist in Europe outnumber every other country’s football clubs. Barclays is quite arguably the biggest bank in the United Kingdom. It was under their naming sponsorship that the PL really became a global brand. At one time, in the 2010s, the league was rebranded and stopped being called Barclays, which ended their naming rights sponsorship that they signed from the 2003/04 season.

It’s important to know that they never really left as sponsors. They have always been sponsors, just that the league is not called that now. So, EPL has many sponsors. And that is how they make money too. Premier League is owned by the PL clubs who act as shareholders.

The PL has lucrative domestic and international TV broadcasting rights. 100% of the international broadcasting rights is split between the 20 clubs based on the position they finish, while only 50% of the domestic revenue from broadcasting, usually from BT Sports and Amazon, is divided between clubs.

And that is how the PL makes money. 50% of the leftover revenue is transferred to them in some capacity. They also have a number of sponsorships, and the deals they sign with them offer them huge money. Barclays Bank is the Banking sponsorship of the PL, and it was reported yesterday that they have renewed their deal with the PL until the 2024/25 season.

EA Sports is the lead partner and the gaming partner. Budweiser is the official beer of the Premier League, while Hublot is the official timekeeper. Oracle offers its partnership through cloud services while Nike is a big sponsor for the referee kits and match-balls. Avery Dennison and Panini, the famous brand that makes football cards and stickers, are the other two major sponsors.

Apart from these, there are also several small-time deals that the PL signs from time-to-time in order to generate revenue.
