Who Is The Best Football Referee of All Time? Preview

The major power that upholds the rules of the game, harmony, and the success of any game is the football referee. However, some of the top officials raised the bar for this. Each national association submits its top officials to FIFA for inclusion on the FIFA International Referees List, and the best football referees are trained at national camps connected to FIFA.

Referees must wear black shorts and black socks while officiating any match. FIFA permits officials to wear jerseys in any of the five allowed hues—black, red, yellow, green, and blue. Since Richard Mulcaster first mentioned referees in relation to football in 1581, they have been an essential component of every game.

The best football referee of all time is the legendary Italian Pierluigi Collina. He is the only official to have received the prestigious “FIFA Referee of The Year” award a record six times in a row. In addition, he presided over numerous outstanding matches, including the 2002 FIFA World Cup Final and the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final.

Among the greatest football referees of all time, Markus Merk from Germany and Howard Webb from England merit recognition. Pierluigi Collina, an ex-football official from Italy, served from 1995 to 2005. He received a record six straight “Best Referee of the Year” awards from FIFA, and he is largely considered the most significant official in the annals of international football.

Since July 5, 2010, Collina has performed his duties as the Chief of the Football Federation of Ukraine in addition to serving as a current member of the UEFA Referees Committee. Way back in 1977, he changed his referee’s course.
Due to his distinctively bald appearance brought on by alopecia, Collina has acquired the moniker “Kojak.”

Collina was added to FIFA’s list of referees in 1995 after officiating 43 Series A games. He presided over some of the finest games ever, including the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final between Bayern Munich and Manchester United and the 2002 FIFA World Cup Final between Brazil and Germany.
