Michael Edwards will be leaving this iteration of Liverpool as a hero, with being one of the chief architects to the pinnacle of football teams in 2021. His important work with manager Jürgen Klopp and chief of operations Mike Gordon helped transform the Reds from an underperforming and sleeping giant into a team that would play an exciting high-pressure footballing side.
They would ultimately become the ‘Champions of Everything’ in 2020 as they won both the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA World Cup, and the Premier League over the 2020 calendar year.

Edwards first arrived in 2011 at Merseyside, initially as head of analytics before getting promoted to the role of Sporting Director the very first in Liverpool’s history during Autumn 2016. Michael earned quite the reputation as a tough-as-nails negotiator in the transfer market, a tactic that did pay dividends in the long run. Liverpool has gone on to become a fearsome team unmatched against any team in any competition.

He also was able to secure hefty fees for deadwood players like Jordon Ibe, Mamadou Sakho, Danny Ings, Danny Ward, Dominic Solanke, Rhian Brewster and Harry Wilson.
Julian Ward will now be stepping up from his role as assistant Sporting Director when Edwards eventually departs. He is a highly respected individual who has a good relationship with both Klopp and Gordon, having himself been with the club since 2012.
