It was not really difficult. I was really close to [Cameroon] because of my dad. I was close to both [cultures], but some people thought I was only French, so maybe that’s why they were shocked and thought it was a difficult [decision] for me. But I knew I had my Cameroonian side as well.
On his parents being extremely supportive towards his career, Mbeumo also said:
I think my father helped me a lot when I was younger, along with my mom. He always trusted me and drove me to the best conditions I could get to try and live my dream. My parents always tried to support me, even when it was hard.
Mbeumo has certainly rosen up the ranks in quick time, and with the winger still having a long career ahead of him, many clubs will certainly want to sign him.
