Tottenham Hotspur had a shock season last time out when the best they could manage was a seventh-place finish and qualification to the first-ever UEFA Conference League. That was always going to be followed by drawing teams from the unlikeliest parts of Europe and Spurs got one in Mura. But who are NS Mura? Alley Sport has the answer for you.
Who are NS Mura?- The history
NS Mura are a Slovenian football club, where the ‘NS’ stands for Nogometna sola. They play in the town of Murska Sobota in Slovenia itself, and are a top team in the country’s first division. The club is one of Slovenia’s biggest sporting establishments.
The club is the successor of ND Mura 05, who were dissolved due to financial difficulties in 2012. From there on, as many clubs who go into association do, ND Mura 05 had a new name- NS Mura. They play their games at Fazanerija Stadium that has a capacity of about 5,500 fans.
The club is just a little over 9 years old but is already challenging Maribor as the country’s top footballing team. They won their first Slovenian league title last season when they finished on same points as Maribor, but had a better head-to-head record.

Bcoming only the second ever Slovenian side to play in a European competition’s group stages, Mura were drawn with Rennes, Vitesse, and Tottenham Hotspur in this year’s UECL group stages. It was never going to easy for them.
They lost to Vitesse 2-0 at home and Spurs were always going to be a tougher test. Harry Kane struck a scintillating hat-trick as Spurs trumped the minnows 5-1. Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso had even put the Lilywhites ahead with just 8 minutes on the clock.
Kane then came on to score a 20-minute hat-trick as Ziga Kous’ early second-half goal only proved to be a consolation. They now have the task of facing Rennes, and one would think just getting a point this season in the group stages would be counted as success for them,
