The biggest tournament of African football is given the green light amidst COVID-19, as Alley Sport discovers “When does Salah go to the African Cup of Nations”.

African Cup of Nations is slated to begin on the 9th of January, with the final of this prestigious tournament being held on 6th February, 2022. It was initially planned to be held in June/July 2021, but pandemic related issues pushed the tournament in the midst of the domestic seasons in European football- leading to several star players leaving their club in a crucial point of the season.

When does Salah go to the African Cup of Nations

Liverpool would be gutted to lose their star players- Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita- as the trio are called up by their respective nations for the tournament. It is yet unclear when the players are due to report for national duty, however, Liverpool would be hoping that these players would be available for the Chelsea game (2nd January). Expected games to be missed by Salah would include Shrewsbury Town (FA Cup), Brighton (PL), Brentford (PL) and Leicester City (PL)- in case the side makes it to the knockouts.

Other Premier League facing the heat as well

Not just Mohammed Salah, but the Premier is expected to lose atleast 38 players from 16 different clubs to the AFCON tournament. It includes star names like Riyad Mahrez (Man City) for Algeria, Eduoard Mendy, Trevor Chalobah (Chelsea) for Senegal as well as Pierre Emrick Aubameyang (Arsenal) to Gabon.

Leicester City, Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Watford would be the other teams who would be heavily affected by the AFCON, with atleast 4 stars from these teams leaving for the tournament. The AFCON is expected to be highly competitive, with the heavy influx of African players playing in top European clubs.

The telecasting rights of the Premier League in the USA lies with Peacock and NBC and for fans in India, the PL is broadcasted on the Star Entertainment Network, including the Star Sports Select HD channels, and will be streaming live on Disney+ Hotstar App on iOS and Android.
