The summer transfer window this season has been a massive one. Let’s have a look at the clubs spending the most money across Europe
The cash has been flowing all around Europe as clubs look to revamp their squads.Their sight lies on every major trophy to fight for in Europe and bring their clubs glory.
Here are the 3 clubs who have broken their banks this summer transfer window:
3. Atletico Madrid; Total Spent: €243.5 million
A trophy-less season last year maybe forced Antoine Griezmann to make a move to F.C Barcelona. The veterans of the team; Diego Godin, Filipe Luis, Juanfran had their end of contracts last season. Godin signed with Inter Milan, Luis went to Brazilian side Flamengo and Juanfran went to Sao Paulo.
Important young players like Rodri, Lucas Hernandez, Gelson Martins and Luciano Vietto also departed. Midfielder Rodri was signed by Manchester City in a €70 million deal. Left back, Hernandez signed for F.C Bayern Munich in a €80 million deal. Martins was brought by A.S Monaco for €30 million. Vietto was sold to Sporting CP in for € 7.5 million.
The exit of important players made Atletico very active in the transfer market. They signed 19 year old Portuguese sensation Joao Felix for a €126 million deal from SL Benfica. 24 year old defensive midfielder, Marcos Llorente was signed in a deal worth €30 million from Real Madrid C.F.
F.C Porto centre back Felipe and midfielder Hector Herrera have joined the Spanish side in a €20 million and a free deal, respectively. They also signed Left back Renan Lodi from Brazilian club Athletico PR for €20 million and right back Kieran Trippier. He has joined the side from Tottenham Hotspur in a £21.7million deal. Their latest signing has been Centre back Mario Hermoso from Espanyol for £25 million.
2. FC Barcelona; Total Spent: €255 million
Losing out on the Champions League yet again, and also losing the final of Copa Del Rey has left Barcelona hurt. They want to challenge for all the titles in Europe once again with a better squad, for which they have already spent €255 million and are looking to spend more.
F.C Barcelona have brought Antoine Griezmann for €120 million from Atletico Madrid. Highly rated Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong from AFC Ajax for €75 million. Brazilian goalkeeper Neto from Valencia for €26 million, right back Emerson from Brazilian club Atletico MG for €12 million and left back Junior Firpo for €18 million.
Barca have confirmed their negotiations going on to bring Neymar Jr. back to Camp Nou. With the transfer deadline coming near it’s a do or die situation for the Catalan club.
1. Real Madrid; Total Spent: €303 million
The Galacticos were infuriated by a very poor season last year. The club didn’t win a single trophy and also finished 3rd in the league behind their arch rivals F.C Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Los Blancos have already splashed €303 million and are not looking hesitant to spend more. With their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club last year, the club has seen a major downfall. To regain their elite position in world football they have signed a list of elite players.
Belgian forward, Eden Hazard was brought for €100 million in a club record deal from Chelsea. 21 year old striker, Luka Jovic moved to Madrid in a €60 million deal from Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. Brazilian 21 yr old centre back, Eder Militao joins from F.C Porto for €50 million. French left back, Ferland Mendy signed from Olympique Lyon for €48 million.
18 year old, Brazilian striker Rodrygo also joined the club from Santos for €45 million.
