Aston Villa vs Tottenham, Match Preview

Tottenham defeated Brentford 2-0 in the EFL Cup semifinal in their last match to reach the finals. Mourinho will be reunited with former nemesis Pep Guardiola who has won the tournament for the last 3 seasons in a row.

Moussa Sissoko opened the scoring for Spurs after heading home from a Sergio Reguilon cross. Tanguy Ndombele showed good vision, finding Son Heung-min on the counter and the South Korean forward slotted past Brentford keeper Raya to give Spurs a 2-0 win.

Mourinho will lead his team against non-league Marine in the FA Cup 3rd Round before traveling to Birmingham for the Villa game. Spurs should advance to the next stage of the FA Cup against minnows Marine and this will add to their strong form of late and give their players a morale boost.

Aston Villa were forced to play a team largely composed of U-18 and U-23 players in their FA Cup tie against Liverpool. Teenager Louie Barry scored his first senior goal for Villa against the PL Champions in a 4-1 defeat for the Villans. Dean Smith’s young team can take a lot of positives from the defeat and will hope to continue their strong league position by denying victory for Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Aston Villa: Latest Team News

Mourinho is expected to rest his key players against non-league Marine in the FA Cup, so we can expect him to play his best available XI against Villa in the Premier League. Argentine playmaker Giovanni Lo Celso is the only injury doubt for Spurs. Summer signing Gareth Bale, who returned to North London on loan from Real Madrid, might be available for this fixture, although he will likely come off the bench.

Dean Smith will have a couple of players missing out on the important Spurs clash owing to injury. Trezeguet and Ross Barkley who is on loan from Chelsea, are doubts for this match due to a hamstring injury. Villa will also be without striker Wesley Moraes who is out with a knee injury and is not expected to return until March.
