TOP 5 UPSETS OF WIMBLEDON’19

Wimbledon Championship is the most famous and toughest Grand Slam of the year. Every year, Wimbledon is played on grass courts which prove to be a tough nut to crack for many players because of the surface’s vulnerability throughout the season. We have witnessed that the players are more accustomed to hard courts or clay courts rather than grass.
In first round of This year’s ‘Championships’ , we witnessed many upsets. Few top players lost their respective matches in the first round itself. Here are the top 5 upsets of this year’s Wimbledon:
1. Dominic Thiem:
Dominic Thiem is a prospering young talent in tennis. Dominic Thiem lost in the first round of this year’s Wimbledon. Thiem was French Open’s runners’ up this year and is a very confident player. His defeat against Sam Querrey in the first round of Wimbledon made him crash out of the Wimbledon. https://alleysport.com
2. Venus Williams :
Venus Williams is a former Wimbledon champion. Even though she is legend of this game, she hasn’t performed well for last few years in Grand Slams. Venus Williams lost against 15 years old Cori Gauff in the very first round. This was the most shocking upset of 2019 Wimbledon championship.
3. Naomi Osaka:
Naomi Osaka is very young and talented tennis player. She won last year’s US open and this year’s Australian open. Everyone kept high expectations from her and she was named as one of favourites to win Wimbledon for the same reason, however she crashed out in the first round. Putintseva beat Osaka in very first round , where she let go of many opportunities throughout the match.
4. Alexander Zevrev:
Alexander Zevrev is the flagbearer of upcoming men’s tennis. He is a marvelous player when it comes to Tennis, but always fails to make his mark in grand Slam tournaments. But this time in Wimbledon he lost in first round. This was shocking for him to lose in first round of the Tournament despite showing a lot of promise.
5. Stefanos Tsitsipas:
Tsitsipas started this year with a Bang. He beat Federer in Australian open and his progress was phenomenal this year. Tsitsipas kept high hopes from this year’s Wimbledon but lost against Fabbiano, who is always known to be a good player on grass.
