Sourav Ganguly questions exclusion of Gill, Rahane

Ganguly questions the exclusion of Shubhman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane from the ODI squad against West Indies. Alley sport analysed what Ganguly had to say.

Former Captain of the Indian cricket team Sourav Ganguly took a dig at the selectors. He has critisized the selectors for not picking up, Indian test team Vice captain Rahane. He also questioned the exclusion of talented youngster Shubhman Gill in the ODI squad vs the West Indies.

Ganguly tweeted his displeasure on twitter. “Time has come for Indian selectors to pick same players in all formats of the game for rhythm and confidence.. too few are playing in all formats ..great teams had consistent players ..it’s not about making all happy but picking the best for the country and be consistent @bcci,” 

“Here are many in the squad who can play all formats ..surprised not to see Shubman Gill. Rahane in the one day squad,” he added.

Whilst Ganguly questioned the omission of the two players he also showed his disagreement towards the selection of Kedar jadhav. Jadhav, who didn’t impress on his world cup campaign was selected. Whereas Gill who was adjudged man of the series in the five List A games vs West Indies A, scoring 218 runs wasn’t picked.

He has been with the team and has closely followed the team since a long time. He is also named as one of the front runners in the race of joining the team India support staff. It is worth speculating that whether the selectors and the selection panel takes in note of what the retired players have to say.
