Rohit Sharma is set to miss the opening 2 test matches against Australia as his hamstring woes still need 3-4 weeks to recover. Along with Rohit Sharma, India will also miss the services of a vital cog like Ishant Sharma for the first 2 matches. Reports have suggested that the 14 day quarantine rules might not allow them to play the remaining tests and miss the entire series even if they recover in time.

Rohit Sharma fitness update has been a huge blow to the team as he has been in excellent form in the test format after being sent to open the batting. He repaid the faith and scored over 500 runs in 3 tests against South Africa with a double hundred to his name securing the test opener slot along with Mayank Agarwal. Earlier BCCI had rested him for the white ball matches and was added to the test squad later.

Rohit Sharma along with Ishant Sharma were sent to the NCA in Bangalore to undergo rehabilitation and fitness reports have been sent to the BCCI. Rohit and Ishant are still doubtful for the remaining tests, and even if fit, have to undergo 14 day quarantine to be part of the training. They will be able to play the tests only if Australian board allows them to train during the 14 day period which is more likely not to happen.

The opening slot to partner Mayank Agarwal will be a battle between Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill and Kl Rahul but most likely Prithvi Shaw will be given a go and Kl Rahul might end up in the middle order as the Indian captain Virat Kohli will return to India after the first test in Adelaide owing to his child birth. Ajinkya Rahane is expected to take up the leader roles from the second test and it will be a great opportunity for him to establish his captaincy standards.
