Premier League weekend results, gameweek 2: Chelsea, Liverpool cruise to victories

Liverpool kicked off the weekend in style. The Reds were in fine form to beat Burnley as Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane were on the scoresheet. Mohamed Salah’s goal was ruled out offside, showing how the 2-0 scoreline didn’t reflect the true story of Liverpool’s dominance. They are now join-top of the table with Chelsea- same points, goals scored, goals conceded and GD!

The Blues followed up their 3-0 opening day win vs Crystal Palace with a statement win at the Emirates. Romelu Lukaku scored on his second debut for the Blues before Reece James scored to double their lead. Thomas Tuchel’s Blues, along with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, look like the real deal this season to win the Premier League.

Premier League weekend results: Man United draw, Spurs win again, Man City rampant

Southampton arguably deserved to win against Manchester United on Sunday as a goalkeeper error saw Mason Greenwood equalise. The Red Devils look lacklustre and rivals should not be fearing them when it comes to winning the title.

Spurs, in that regard, were much more reassured against Wolves. A Dele Alli penalty may have been the only goal they scored, but to do it with a new manager in charge and without Harry Kane is sublime. Man City, on the other hand, impressed barely anyone with a 5-0 rout of Norwich. After spending billions on your squad, that kind of a result becomes more of an expectation.

Everton were again wasteful against Leeds United and do not seem like the team that will make Europe this season. Carlo Ancelotti’s shock departure has visibly unsettled the club from top to bottom. Aston Villa finally looked like the team from last year after a 2-0 win in impressive fashion.
