Oldest Premier League manager – Roy Hodgson
Roy Hodgson CBE (born 9 August 1947) is a former player and current manager of Watford Football Club in England. Beginning in 1976 with Halmstads BK in Sweden, he has managed 16 different teams in eight different nations. Later, he led the Swiss national team to the World Cup quarterfinals in 1994 and qualification for Euro 1996. Since the 1960s, Switzerland had not qualified for a major event.
He managed the Finland national team from 2006 to 2007, leading them to their highest-ever FIFA ranking of 33rd and bringing them dangerously close to qualifying for a major tournament for the first time in the country’s history. From May 2012 to June 2016, he was the manager of the England national team.
Inter Milan, Blackburn Rovers, Malmö FF, Grasshoppers, FC Copenhagen, Udinese, Fulham, Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion, and Crystal Palace are among the clubs that Hodgson has managed.
Watford appoint Roy Hodgson as new manager
Following Claudio Ranieri’s sacking on Monday, the Hornets are eager to recruit a new manager as soon as possible. The club is currently in the Premier League’s bottom three. Since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season, Hodgson, 74, has been out of the game. Despite losing his first three games in charge, he guided Palace to 11th in the table, while they finished 12th, 14th and 14th in subsequent seasons.
He claimed he intended to take a vacation from the game at the time, but he didn’t rule out returning at some point. Watford want to give Ranieri’s replacement as much time as possible to get to know the team ahead of a key Premier League match against Burnley on February 5th.
