The most goals scored by an an England player in one game is a record held by not one, but four players. And none of them are active anymore. The first individual to achieve this feat was Howard Vaughton. The Aston Villa icon netted 5 times in a 13-0 friendly win over Ireland in Belfast on 18 February 1882.
The second player to do it was Steve Bloomer, who netted 5 against Wales in a friendly held on 16 March 1896, where he netted 5 goals in a 9-1 away win for the Three Lions.
The third one is Willie Hall, an inductee into the Tottenham Hotspur Hall of Fame in 2006. He scored five goals for England against Northern Ireland on November 16, 1938, in a friendly game. His goals came in a 30-minute period either side of half time, where the Three Lions won 7-0.

While these three attackers scored their goals in friendlies, there is only one England player to achieve this feat in a competitive game. Malcolm Macdonald, a legend for Newcastle United, scored all five goals when England beat Cyprus in a Euro 1976 qualifier.
The match, held on 16 April 1975, is the only competitive game where a Three Lions player has netted a treble, and the only time the five-goal haul is achieved against a team residing outside the British isles. The game has become competitive to an extent that such a tally is tough to achieve now. But who knows, records are always meant to be broken.
