Matheus Cunha Grandfather: What Manchester United star said about his deal

Former Wolves stalwart, Matheus Cunha, has finally moved to the club of his ‘grandfather’s dream’, Manchester United. Manchester United paid £62.5million to get the player’s signature. Cunha was a priority target for the club. United wasted no time after starting negotiations to get the deal done as soon as possible. The club recently announced the transfer as well and Cunha is set to travel with the team for its pre-season fixtures.

What Matheus Cunha said about his Grandfather

Matheus Cunha revealed in an interview that it was his grandfather’s wish for him to join Manchester United. He said:

“I didn’t come here for fame. I came to work and also came to honor the shirt that meant the world to my grandfather — and now means the world to me. This club isn’t just a team. It’s a legacy. I’m ready to fight for it.”

The 25-year-old has big shoes to fill after being given number 10 by the English club. Matheus Cunha’s father, Carmelo, had also interacted with Fabrizio Romano’s ‘Here we go!’ update on Cunha’s move to United in excitement. Carmelo had previously sparked buzz among supporters. He he was spotted liking a comment which read: “Welcome to United,” during the last season.

Manchester United are yet to make any more signings after securing the signature of Matheus Cunha. Ruben Amorim’s squad seems to be struggling with depth after the imminent departure of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and others. With Matheus Cunha donning the number 10 shirt, future doesn’t look good for Marcus Rashford, who is a potential target for FC Barcelona.
