League leaders Manchester United will travel to Anfield to face bitter rivals Liverpool in a top-of-the-table Premier League clash, and Alley Sport is here with Manchester United predicted lineup vs Liverpool. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co will play their biggest fixture yet in the North-west Derby, the results of which might very well decide the destination of the Premier League title this season.
Liverpool vs Manchester United, Match Preview
Man United played their postponed game-week 1 fixture against Burnley this week at Turf Moor. A splendid volley from Paul Pogba, which deflected on its way into the back of the net was the difference between the two sides, as United left Turf Moor with all 3 points in the bag. The result saw United go 3 points clear at the top of the league table. Notably, this is the first time United are on top of the league after completing 17 games.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope for his team to build on this result as a tough challenge at Merseyside awaits the Red Devils. Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield since April 2017. In a press conference, Solskjaer said that he rates his team’s chances of ending the PL champions’ envious record in the league at home.
Liverpool played a full-strength squad, featuring the likes of Salah and Mane against an Aston Villa side that was largely comprised of under-23 players. The Reds won the FA Cup clash at Villa Park 1-4, with youngster Louie Barry scoring the only goal for the home side. The result comes as a sigh of relief for the Anfield faithful, who saw their side succumb to defeat at the hands of Southampton in the league prior to their FA Cup win.
Liverpool vs Manchester United, Latest Team News
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dealt with two injuries in their win against Burnley this week. Forward Anthony Martial has injured his hamstring and defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic, who was flawless at Turf Moor, has picked up a groin injury. The availability of these two players for the Liverpool fixture is a doubt. Victor Lindelof was dropped against Burnley after picking up a knock in training and it remains unclear whether the Swedish center-back will play against Liverpool.
Apart from this, Phil Jones is still not part of the squad, recovering from an injury, and new signing Facundo Pellistri is recovering from the corona virus.
Liverpool will be without a host of first-team players. Klopp will have to put out a Reds team against United that will not feature the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez or Naby Keita, who are all on the sidelines with injuries. New signings Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota are also injured and not available for this game.
Manchester United predicted lineup vs Liverpool
We expect Solskjaer to go with the 4-4-2 diamond formation, which he has deployed in the Premier League for a few games this season. This decision could be a result of Anthony Martial’s injury during the game against Burnley. Thus, we can expect Edinson Cavani to partner Marcus Rashford up front, with Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Fred and Nemanja Matic (subject to fitness), are expected to form the midfield diamond.
Formation: 4-4-2 diamond
GK: David de Gea
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka
LB: Luke Shaw
CB: Eric Bailly
CB: Harry Maguire (c)
CDM: Nemanja Matic
CM: Paul Pogba
CAM: Bruno Fernandes
ST: Edinson Cavani
CF: Marcus Rashford
Liverpool vs Manchester United, Score Prediction
Although both teams are in good form coming into this game, with United, perhaps a little ahead in terms of recent form, we put this game down as a 2-2 draw.
