Man City vs Sheffield United, Match Preview

Guardiola and co have put in the hard work in recent months, climbing to the top of the table slowly but steadily. Ever since City lost to Tottenham Hotspur 2 months back, they have not lost a single competitive fixture so far. Center-back pairing John Stones and Ruben Dias have stepped up for City, keeping 14 clean sheets in the Citizens’ ongoing 18-match unbeaten run. Their most recent fixture was a 0-5 drubbing of West Brom in the Premier League.

City showed they weren’t reliant on playmaker Kevin de Bruyne to create chances, as they sent out a strong message to fellow title contenders by scoring 5 past their opponents, despite the absence of the Belgian. City’s German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan broke the deadlock after just 6 minutes, lashing a shot from the edge of the box past West Brom keeper Johnstone. Joao Cancelo, who assisted the first goal, got in on the scoresheet with his first Premier League goal, doubling City’s lead. Gundogan scored his second of the game, finishing coolly from inside the box after West Brom fluffed a clearance.

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez curled a wonderful effort into the far left corner, after picking up a high cross from stand-in captain Raheem Sterling. Mahrez returned the favour in the second half, setting up Sterling’s first goal of the game and City’s fifth. Guardiola seemed to be delighted at the entertaining football played by his side, following Mahrez’s beautiful cross for the fifth goal. This is our Manchester City predicted lineup vs Sheffield United.
