Everton FC confirmed left-back Lucas Digne was set to undergo surgery after suffering an ankle ligament injury in training. “The left-back was injured during a training session at USM Finch Farm this week,” an Everton statement read on Thursday.”

“Digne is due to undergo surgery on Monday before commencing his rehabilitation under the care of the club’s medical staff.” The 27 year-old former La Masia product has shined under Ancelotti this season by already providing 4 assists in 8 matches. The French defender, since his arrival in 2018 for 18 million, has only missed 5 league matches at the club.

Ancelotti played Niels Nkounkou when Lucas Digne had picked up a red card against Southampton. In 74 matches of the Premier League, Lucas Digne has 4 goals and 15 assists.

This means that Lucas Digne will be out for 2 months and will be back next year in February. Everton already have Sheamus Coleman with a hamstring injury and midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin out with an Achilles injury.

There’s never a good time for an injury and certainly no time for Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton who have some important fixtures in December as they play Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City at home in the Premier League.
