List of The Best FIFA Men’s Award Winners: From 2016 to 2021

The next issue of the FIFA men’s award is on the verge of reaching the horizon. The basic idea behind this award is to recognize the most exceptional individual player talent. The list for the year 2021 is out now. But, before looking at the current set of players let’s rewind the clock and look back at the previous recipients. List of The Best FIFA Men’s Award Winners could have been endless if it existed during the era of Maradona and Pele. However, the inaugural FIFA men’s best award was given back in 2016.

 2016 – Cristiano Ronaldo:

The Portuguese sensation, one of the all-time greats Cristiano Ronaldo won the inaugural FIFA Men’s player award. In 2016 Cristiano won everything which was out there to be won. He was the 2016 Ballon d’ OR winner, UEFA Champions League winner, UEFA Euro 2016 Winner, World Soccer’s Player of the Year are only to name a few. His list of personal accolades was enough for someone to understand how he was able to single-handedly dominate the whole of Europe.

2017- Cristiano Ronaldo:

Once again Cristiano Ronaldo marked himself in contention of being considered as the greatest of all time. Ronaldo was a key element in Real Madrid’s remarkable double of La Liga title as well as the UEFA Champions League. Cristiano found the back of the net 37 times in La Liga and UEFA Champions League. Even with the likes of Messi and Neymar Ronaldo managed to maintain his superiority throughout Europe. Cristiano equaled Messi’s record of achieving the highest number of Ballon d’Ors.

Cristiano looked like a fine wine he was just getting better and better with time.

2018 – Luka Modric:

The Croatian mid-fielder had a season to remember. It was Kaka who halted the era of Messi and Ronaldo in 2007. For a whole decade, Messi and Ronaldo went on to dominate the world of football. Two players who were able to outclass the rest of the world by the sheer display of their skill set. Messi and Ronaldo played in a league of their own. In 2018 Luka Modric changed the whole equation as he broke through the pre-established norms of living in the shadow of two football giants. He took Croatia to the World Cup finals under his leadership, he was pivotal in Real Madrid’s third successive Champions League.

2019 – Lionel Messi:

It is hard to keep Lionel Messi out of the picture from the debate of the greatest of all time. When Barcelona started to struggle Messi carried his team on his shoulders. His presence on the field in the year 2019 could be felt more than ever. Even Valverde couldn’t keep himself from expressing his astonishment whenever the name of Argentine came up. Messi took Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final. He singles handily guided Barcelona to the La Liga title. Messi’s contribution towards Barcelona success cannot be quantified under any measurement unit. 

2020 – Robert Lewandowski:

Robert Lewangoalski as Thomas Muller termed him in one of the press conferences. The Polish striker can’t stop himself from making headlines. He broke the long-running record of the highest number of goals in a Bundesliga season by Gerd Muller. In the 2020 season, it felt like Robert Lewandowski shifted his gear a step further than others. Everything he touched was turned into a goal. The Polish striker never dropped his hot form; he just went on to continue playing his natural game.

Robert Lewandowski was a striker who was scoring goals for fun. 48 goals in 40 games was a reminder of the success he enjoyed throughout the season. Unfortunately, he missed out on Ballon d’Or due to the pandemic. If the award was held he surely could outclass any player who stood in front of him.

The ceremony for 2021 will take place on 17th January 2022. The list has been announced for the nominees who stand in contention for this award.

Each player on the list has been influential for their clubs for the past year. It is hard to guess who will end up with the award.
