Italy Predicted Lineup vs North Macedonia & Preview

As manager Luciano Spalletti selected 29 players in his first squad for Italy’s next European Championship qualifiers on Friday, midfielder Manuel Locatelli has been brought back up, while veteran defender Leonardo Bonucci is out. The most recent captain of Italy’s centre back Bonucci, who just joined Union Berlin, was not selected.

The 25-year-old Locatelli was crucial to Italy’s victory at Euro 2020, but Roberto Mancini, the previous manager, has not called him up since 2022. Other long-term absentees who will be joining him are AS Roma’s Gianluca Mancini and Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni, while Lazio defender Nicolo Casale got his first call-up.

Italy’s Euro 2024 qualifying match against North Macedonia will mark Spalletti’s managerial debut on September 9, and three days later, the Azzurri will face Ukraine. After Mancini quit as manager of the national team last month, Spalletti, 64, who had previously guided Napoli to their first Serie A championship in 33 years, was named the new coach.

With three points from two games, Italy is in third place in Group C, behind group leaders England (12 points from 4 games), who are also in third place, and Ukraine (6 points from 3 games). Going into this fixture, Italy has a win probability of 70%, whereas North Macedonia has a win probability of 20%.
