BCCI may incur ‘huge’ loss if IPL 2020 is cancelled

According to multiple reports, the loss that BCCI may incur if IPL is called off is worth thousands of crores. The future of IPL 2020 is not sure after the coronavirus pandemic has hit the Indian subcontinent. IPL 2020 may get cancelled if the virus keeps spreading.

The COVID-19 has affected various sports across the globe. While major footballing leagues have been called off or postponed, IPL is under the scanner too. Indian Premier League has been postponed till 15th April, keeping in mind that the problem will eventually decrease.

Loss worth these many crores

However, the cases in India have been increasing at a faster pace now. There are multiple reports and rumours regarding the future of IPL this season. While a huge amount has already been spent on the Advertising, there are still many expenses that have already been spent upon. According to some reports, and as reported by Republic , this loss could be worth Rs. 10000 crores. These losses will include expenses on factors such as sponsorships, media rights, franchise revenues and hospitality fees.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has assured everyone multiple times that the Indian Premier League will take place. If it is not possible with the audience, the league may happen behind closed doors. BCCI has been conducting multiple meetings since then to decide how the season will take place.

It is also understood that the IPL cannot be postponed further as it will affect the T20 World Cup and the entire cricketing calendar cannot be shifted. IPL 2020 may have to be cancelled it things don’t get sorted out soon.

The India vs South Africa series is called off, along with the Road Safety World Series. Cancelling these leagues wasn’t an easy step for the BCCI and further cancellations can prove to be a huge loss. Lets hope IPL 2020 is a success.
