Inter defeated arch-rivals Juventus 2-0 in the Serie A in their most recent match. Ex-Juventus player Arturo Vidal rose the highest to meet an inch-perfect cross from Nicolo Barella, putting the Nerazzuri on the lead, against a team managed by his former partner in midfield. In the second half, young center-back Alessandro Bastoni showed great skill in finding Barella with a through ball, who then latched on to it and smashed one against the roof of the net, doubling Inter’s lead with less than 20 minutes left on the clock.

Even Cristiano Ronaldo could not inspire Juventus to mount a comeback effort from there on and Conte’s side won all 3 points, fair and square. The win takes Inter to 2nd place, 3 points behind rivals AC Milan, who won 2-0 against Cagliari later through a Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace.

On the other hand, Udinese are on a poor run of form, with their last win in a competitive fixture coming against Torino on 12 December. Udinese are 15th in the Serie A league table, with a low return of 16 points from 17 games. They will be playing against the odds when they host Inter, and a positive result here against the Nerazzuri will provide a much-needed morale boost for Udinese.

Conte will have a fairly full squad of players to choose from when his side travels to play Udinese this week. Danilo D’Ambrosio is expected to be the only Inter absentee. The Italian center-back, who can also play on the right hand side, is recovering from a knee injury and is expected to be back in training by early February. D’Ambrosio played 11 matches for the Nerazzuri in the Serie A this season, scoring 3 goals in the process.

Udinese will have a long list of absentees for their important game against Inter. Forwards Ignacio Pussetto, on loan from Watford, is out with a knee injury till early February. The Argentine forward had 3 goals and an assist under his belt in 11 Serie A games before his injury. Fellow striker Fernando Forestieri is also out with a thigh injury. Bosnian midfielder Mato Jajalo is out with a meniscus injury, while center-back Sebastian Prodl and forward Stefano Okaka Chuka are on the sidelines with injuries. Holland defender Nuytinck is also ruled out due to a calf injury.

We expect Conte to play in his preferred 3-5-2 formation, with Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez continuing their partnership up front. Captain Samir Handanovic is sure to start in goal, with the impressive Alessandro Bastoni playing alongside Stefan de Vrij and Milan Skriniar in central defence. Arturo Vidal, who scored in Inter’s last game against Juve, is expected to continue in central midfield with Marcelo Brozovic and in-form Nicolo Barella.
