Atletico Madrid most recently made a memorable final against Real Madrid in San Siro, Italy in the year 2016. Madrid scored three in extra time, with Gareth Bale playing a starring role and Cristiano Ronaldo also getting his goal. It was heartbreak for Atleti in Lisbon, Portugal, the home of Ronaldo himself. They failed to exact revenge two years later as well.
Group B of UCL 2021- Have Atletico won Champions League?
Atletico made their first final against Bayern Munich in 1974. They took the lead through Luis Aragones in the 114th minute and everyone thought they had the game in the bag, until the Germans scored in the 120th minute to force a replay.
Atletico then capitulated in the 2nd game and lost 4-0. They have hence lost all three finals they have been in and have NEVER won the UEFA Champions League title in history. They are drawn into Group B of the UCL 2021/22 with Liverpool, AC Milan, and FC Porto.
Milan have 7, LFC have 6, while Porto has two UEFA Champions League titles and Atletico would hope to make it 1 by the end of this season. That is, of course, a task easier said than done and Simeon would need his team at the top of their game to achieve that.
