Group A and Group B in Champions League draw 2021/22- Which is the group of death?
The UEFA Champions League draw has been conducted. We finally have the 8 groups of teams that will be fighting it out for the ultimate prize. As with every draw in a major competition, there tends to be an extra-tough group. So, while we know Group A and Group B in Champions League draw 2021/22, which is the group of death?
Group A and Group B in Champions League draw- Which is the group of death
We have already had two exciting groups in the Champions League this year. Group A sees Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, and Club Brugge. Technically speaking, the four of these teams have no Champions League trophies between them. But three of the teams are very potent.
PSG have quite arguably the greatest team assembled in the past decade. With Lionel Messi, their team is one of the most deadly ever seen. The club also signed Georginio Wijnaldum, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, amongst other players. Moreover, they have kept Neymar and Mbappe so far in this window.
Manchester City are always a threat and the last year’s UCL finalists will want to go one step further this time around. They might have lost Sergio Aguero but he wasn’t an important player in their Champions League run last year anyway. The signing of Jack Grealish makes them one of the favourites to win the whole thing, while Leipzig are also a very good team, as witnessed in the UCL last season.
The Group of Death- Group A and Group B in Champions League draw
Group B, on the other hand, have teams with rich history and culture. Atletico Madrid might not have won the whole thing but have been worthy finalists on multiple occasions. Apart from the current La Liga champions, Liverpool, AC Milan, and FC Porto have a staggering 15 UCL trophies between them.
Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp are touted to win every competition they play in. They have managed to retain all their key players and signed Ibrahima Konate. Milan are on the rise it seems while Atletico under Diego Simeone are no joke. FC Porto are also impressive in Liga NOS but seem like the team all the other three clubs will target for points.
In our verdict, it’s group B by a long margin. These teams have history, culture, and fans that will light up the stadiums and make this an occasion to remember. The teams in Group B are more evenly matched and just about any two of them can make it out to the Round of 16.
