Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) – God of Football in 2021?

CR7 joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2018 for 100 million euros, after winning a hat-trick of Champions League titles at the Spanish capital. Ronaldo has since won 2 Serie A titles, but has fallen short of expectations in Europe’s premier football competition. This season, Ronaldo has been in stellar form, scoring 15 goals from just 14 Serie A matches. He recently scored in the Supercoppa Italia finals against Napoli, overtaking Josef Bican to become the sport’s greatest goalscorer with 760 goals for club and country. The goal and win also brought a Supercoppa winners’ medal to his name. Ronaldo will expect to lift Juventus up in the Serie A table in the coming months, taking on the likes of a resurgent AC Milan and rivals Inter in a bid to win a third consecutive league title.

Ronaldo will also have one eye on the Champions League, where Juventus will face FC Porto in the Round of 16 next month. They were knocked out of the competition by Ajax in 2018/19 and Lyon in 2019/20. Leading Juventus to the Champions League title and winning the Serie A would be Ronaldo’s aim and doing both will surely make him the undisputed winner of the sport in 2021. He will also be leading his country in the postponed UEFA Euros in the summer where Portugal will be defending their title. He can really be the god of football in 2021.

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern)- God of football in 2021?

Some critics argue that had the Ballon d’Or not been cancelled for 2020, the winner would have been Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker enjoyed one of the best seasons for an individual player in recent history, winning the treble with Bayern Munich. In the process, Lewandowski scored 55 goals across all competitions form 47 matches, and also provided 10 assists, as Die Bayern won the UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB Pokal. Lewandowski also won UEFA Forward of the Year award for his unimaginable performances in the 2019/20 season.

This year, Lewandowski has continued from where he left off, already bagging 22 goals in the Bundesliga from just 16 matches. He has also scored 3 in the Champions League. Hansi Flick’s men have however, been knocked out of the DFB Pokal earlier this month. Lewandowski will still hope to win the Bundesliga title and repeat their successful Champions League campaign from last year. The Bavarian giants have every chance of winning the double this season, with them being one of the strongest squads remaining in both competitions.

They are 4 points clear atop the league table and will face SS Lazio in the Champions League Round of 16. Should Bayern win the double, Lewandowski will be in the running for his first Ballon d’Or award this December, and will undoubtedly be the god of the game this year. He can for real become the God of football in 2021.

Neymar (PSG) – God of football in 2021?

PSG broke the world-record transfer fee and changed the way the transfer market operated when they paid out Neymar Jr’s 222 million Euros release clause in 2017, bringing the Brazilian forward to Paris. Wanting to move out of the shadow of teammate Messi, Neymar agreed to join the Parisians. Since his arrival, Neymar has been showing flashes of brilliance and helped PSG reach the Champions League final last year, where they lost to Bayern Munich.

Ravaged by injuries during his 3-year stay at the club so far, Neymar will hope for a successful European campaign this year and would want to stay injury-free and play a part during the business end of the season. The Brazilian forward, on his day, is arguably one of the best players in the world and has the skill to take on any defender in the sport. Under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, PSG won their first trophy of the season last week, when they beat rivals Marseille 2-1 in the Trophees des Champions. Neymar will hope for a successful league and European campaign this year, which would help his case for a first Ballon d’Or award.
