FPL Gameweek 1 Preview

The 2023/24 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season starts up after two months of team draughts, RMTs, wrecked bandwagons, preseason red herrings, transfer sagas, injury concerns, and countless Twitter threads. Manchester City vs Burnley is the opening match of FPL Gameweek 1.

Erling Haaland must be included in FPL Teams when discussing City, especially considering his ownership and the overwhelming majority of managers that will captain him throughout the first few game weeks. Bukayo Saka isn’t far behind, either, thanks to some impressive early performances and a crucial role in set pieces like penalties.

Marcus Rashford, who has played at home twice in his opening three games, would be the last name on the list. In-home games during the previous season, only Haaland gained more FPL points. As a result of Nkunku’s injury, Nicolas Jackson has been outstanding in the preseason, scoring twice and dishing out three assists.

Reviews of the same are conflicting. On the one hand, it improves his prospects of playing more and developing into Chelsea’s primary attacker. However, it considerably hampers the Chelsea offensive. Jackson can be a terrific choice as a second striker because Chelsea still has the greatest attacking schedule from GWs 1 through 6.

Pervis Estupián, a highly regarded defender, is the second player on our list. The Brighton left-back was a fan favourite in the FPL last season. He made 31 appearances, scored one goal, provided seven assists, and secured ten shutouts. Currently, more than half of the managers in the game possess him.

It’s impossible to go wrong with his pick given that Brighton will play clubs like Luton (H), Wolves (A), and West Ham (H). At the start of the season, Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes is only priced at £5 million and offers exceptional value. His xG of 5.04 was second among all defenders and he started each of the 38 games in the league last season.

More than 20% of managers now have the Crystal Palace midfielder on their rosters. Eberechi Eze scored two goals and collected five assists throughout the preseason. Eze is likely to fill Zaha’s talisman position now that he is no longer playing, and penalties are what is expected of him.

By far, Harry Kane is Tottenham’s most crucial player, and there is a lot of talk about a possible summer transfer to Bayern. If he remains, he may still be a fantastic offensive option, especially if you aren’t sure Mohammed Salah is the best choice for your second premium. Kane finished the previous season with 263 points, just 9 fewer than Haaland, the leading scorer.

The 2017–18 season saw Man United retain 17 clean sheets, demonstrating their strength in the defence. But the Red Devils have now signed André Onana as a viable substitute for David De Gea, who has left the club. He’s already proven what he’s capable of and what he can provide to the Man Utd backline.

Since he outperforms De Gea in passing accuracy, he has a significant chance of earning bonus points. The most reliable defence in this City team is John Stones and Ruben Dias. Stones is even better overall because of the more advanced role he is playing in Pep’s new system. With 2G+2A and a contribution to Man City’s 7 clean sheets, Stones had a fantastic season. Ten of his eleven shots from inside the box during the previous season came from him.
