The 28-year-old defender has refused a contract renewal at Bayern Munich. Alaba’s agent, called a ‘money hungry piranha‘ by Bayern president Uli Hoeness, blamed Bayern’s unwillingness to meet the wage demands of the player as the reason behind the talks breaking down.

Alaba, 28, states that he is ‘disappointed’ at how things are turning out for him at the club he ‘loves playing for’. The Austrian will be a free agent next summer, and will be open to discussing transfer terms with other clubs in January.

Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be after the highly rated Bayern defender. Pep Guardiola’s has spent more than €200 million on fullbacks alone since he joined Manchester City, indicating that he believes he hasn’t found the perfect fullback for his team. David Alaba can fill that void and prove to be a wise investment, if he is to join the Manchester cub.

Liverpool on the other hand have been plagued with injuries this season, especially to key defensive personnel. With van Dijk out and Matip picking up injuries at will, Alaba will be a sturdy centre-back replacement as the 5’11 Austrian has had experience playing in that position at Bayern.

La Liga giants Barcelona are also in the race for Alaba’s signature. As per the Spanish outle ‘Sport’., Alaba has grown ‘tired’ of Bayern’s antics and ‘offered himself to Barcelona’.

Meanwhile, according to Italian paper ‘Calciomercato’, Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid have been offered Alaba by Bayern Munich. Both these clubs can use a player of Alaba’s caliber, a sturdy and pacey defensive player capable of playing in a variety of positions across the field.
