The English Premier League is by far the most watched league in the entire world. They draw the most viewers, have paid some of the most extravagant fees and wages for footballers, and have spent more on transfers than any other league in the world since 1991. But what exactly is the EPL Brand Value?

The league hit a brand value of €9billion earlier in September of this year, according to reliable German website Transfermarkt. That is double of what La Liga values.

This is partly due to EPL teams soaring in valuation over the past years, especially Liverpool and Manchester City, who have become footballing giants in the world- especially financially- in the past decade. The two Manchester clubs are the most valuable in this regard.

The Blues half stands tall at #1 with a valuation of £969.57m, which is more than the entirety of what Serie A is valued at. Much of this is down to the money these clubs make, and the TV revenue- and of course, the sponsorship deals for the clubs and the league altogether. Let’s dive deeper into that.

Premier League has a number of sponsors, each in a multi-million deal that forms a big part of their revenue. EA Sports is a recent addition in the last few years, with Barclays bank still a major player in the game for the PL. What these sponsors do is not only provide annual cash flow to the PL coffers, but also play a big role in advertising the league throughout the world in a major way. But sponsorships can only go so far in providing revenue to the league. The major source of revenue comes from the broadcasting rights. After all, even they have limited cash and the deals once agreed, stay at that fixed amount until it is renewed in a few years’ time, if it is renewed at all.

And in that, TV revenue forms a massive part of the revenue stream. Around $3.6billion was to be generated just by screening Premier League matches across the globe. The revenue money is, of course, divided between the clubs as well, but selling the rights for broadcast is a gold mine that PL cashes in on every few years. The total EPL Brand Value then, is the total value of the clubs playing in it, the potential and scope of future growth of the league, and the money the league generates through rights and sponsorships.
