The international breaks brings excitement to players and fans alike due to international football being played, while also being a chance for the clubs to recuperate a bit with games coming in thick and fast in the business-end of the season. The three lions have 2 fixtures against Switzerland & Ivory Coast this international break and Gareth Southgate announced the squad on 17th March 2022.
As always, the England squad announcement bought in a few surprises and some influential, important players missed out due to poor form or lack of fitness. Notable absentees include – Marcus Rashford who is not getting the game time under Ralf Rangnick that he would have liked and the high-profile signing of the summer Jadon Sancho also misses due to poor club form. The inclusion of Harry Maguire was suprising over Fikayo Tomori who’s AC Milan are top of Serie A.

The Fixtures are set against Switzerland & Ivory Coast in the Wembley stadium, after which they will resume their UEFA Nations League campaign and the World Cup over the winter in Qatar.
England vs Switzerland & Ivory Coast –
Xherdan Shaqiri is the top goal scorer for the Swiss in the Euros after scoring 3 goals in Euro 2020 last summer. Newcastle’s Fabian Schar has 8 goals for the swiss despite being a Defender which makes him the 10th hightest goal scorer for his country. The proceeds from this game will be to benefit the Alzheimer’s International Society.
This will be the 1st ever senior meeting between the three lions and “Les Elephants”. Nicolas Pepe had been in fine form in the African Cup of Nations and being involved directly in 3 goals in 4 games. Also, Serge Aurier has a fine record at the Wembley while playing for Tottenham- Played 17 Won 14, Drawn 2 and lost only 1.
