David Warner injury update: Australian Cricket Team names options to replace opener
David Warner suffered a groin injury in the second ODI at Sydney while fielding, and was taken for scans immediately. Alley Sport is here to bring you all the news on David Warner injury update and the options to replace him.
David Warner injury update
David Warner hurt himself while diving to field during the Indian chase and limped off the field holding his groin. It did not look good and groin injuries could take a long time to recover. He was taken for a scan immediately and is now in rehabilitation after avoiding the surgery. The strain has been confirmed and Warner will miss the remainder of the limited overs series to prove his fitness before the test series starts.
David Warner injury update will be a key factor for India in the remaining matches as he been simply outstanding at the top of the order. He scored two fifties already in the series and formed two hundred partnerships with Aaron Finch for the first wicket. His ability to attack the bowlers from the word go and his running between wickets are some of his greatest attributes and Australia will be hoping to get him back fit for the tests.
Coach Justin Langer mentioned the importance of Warner and Cummins for the most awaited test series starting in two weeks time. Pat Cummins will also miss the remainder of the limited series as his workload is to be managed and to make him ready and fresh for the tests. Justin Langer has stressed the priority of tests over limited series and it will be tough work in the selection process if Warner misses out for the first test. David Warner injury update could be a series deciding factor with the impact he can create in tests.
D’arcy Short to replace injured Warner
D’arcy Short has been named as the replacement to David Warner for the T20 series. He was the top run scorer in last two seasons of Big Bash League and he could bowl some useful overs too. As far as the 3rd ODI is concerned, Australia have two options as of now to open with Alex Carey or bring in Matthew Wade who can also dominate the proceedings in the powerplay. Marcus Stoinis would have been the ideal replacement but unfortunately he is also suffering from a side strain.
David Warner test record is exceptional and it has to be said that replacing a player of his quality is nearly impossible. It was a tough call to make between Joe Burns and Will Pucovksi to partner Warner for the first test but now it seems Warner may miss the first test and Will Pucovski might make his debut. Joe burns has been good in his short international campaign but he had a poor run in the Sheffield Shield with a low average which will be a concern going into the series.
