Chelsea have really suffered a lot with injuries recently and their star players are bearing the brunt of the hectic festive schedule. To add to that, the Covid-19 cases in the United Kingdom are of no help, with several Chelsea players, like many other team’s players, have tested positive of it this month.
Things got from bad to worse when the Blues played Aston Villa yesterday night as two of their players suffered crucial injuries. Chelsea Team News and Covid-19 status: Timo Werner injury update and Thiago Silva latest
Timo Werner tested positive for Covid-19 before Chelsea took on Everton but he was missing from the game against Aston Villa. Ideally, he should have been back from self isolation but there has been no update provided regarding his Covid-19 status.
The German striker was absent against Aston Villa as the Blues won 3-1. Thiago Silva, meanwhile, was substituted shortly after the second half started against the Villans. Thomas Tuchel confirmed after full time that the Brazilian defender suffered from a hamstring issue.
There is still no return date on his injury but it could mean he misses a few weeks of action.
Kai Havertz Covid-19 latest and N’Golo Kante injury update: Latest Chelsea team news
Kai Havertz has finally tested negative for Covid-19 but was absent against Aston Villa. He has tested positive for Covid-19 two separate times at Chelsea and it is evident that the club doesn’t want to risk playing him without taking due precaution.
N’Golo Kante, meanwhile, returned from injury against Steven Gerrard’s Villans, but had to brought off after what Tuchel described as serious pain for the France international. He suffered a knee injury against Juventus and the German manager confirmed that it is an aggravation of the same fitness issue.
While Havertz and Werner are both likely to have a return date of 29th January, when Chelsea host Brighton. However, it remains to be seen when Silva and Kant are expected to return.
