Chelsea FPL Tips and Tricks after AFCON players departure for Gameweeks 20-25
It has been a rough ride for Chelsea in recent times, who have now dropped to 10 points behind league leaders Manchester City in the Premier League. To see if the Africa cup of Nations provides a further blow to their aspirations this season, we at Alley Sport bring you the Chelsea FPL Tips and Tricks for your league lineups, especially after the AFCON players’ departure for Gameweeks 20-25.
Chelsea FPL Tips and Tricks: The Missing Players
The AFCON 2021(now 2022) is the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial international men’s football championship of Africa. After numerous postponements, the competition is now being held from the 9th of January to the 6th of February, 2022 in Cameroon. Chelsea, luckily, have had to lose only one player for these crucial weeks which could shape their campaign and determine what competition Tuchel’s men take part in next season.
The Blues’ star goalkeeper Edouard Mendy departed for AFCON in Cameroon after the gameweek 21 clash against Liverpool, which saw him make some excellent saves in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge. Senegal started training as a team a day after the fixture, when the Chelsea keeper joined up with the squad.
Chelsea FPL Tips and Tricks: The Alternatives
Despite his high price, a lot of us FPL managers had Chelsea number one Edouard Mendy in our fantasy lineups for his incredible returns in terms of clean sheets this season. It will be hard to find a replacement for such an elite performer. Chelsea’s back-up option, the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga could be a decent option, but his tendency to make mistakes and concede makes him unfavourable.
As such, if you have the budget, we advise you to go for one of the South American pair Ederson or Emi Martinez as potential replacements for the Senegalese, with favourable fixtures ahead for both Manchester City and Aston Villa. Considering all factors, an out-of-the-box solution for the short term could be Brighton shotstopper Robert Sanchez, who has an excellent chance of keeping clean sheets looking at the fixtured lying in wait. It could prove a bold yet worthy move moving forward.
Chelsea FPL Tips and Tricks: The Other Picks
Only after gameweek 28 till the end of the season do Chelsea’s fixtures seem attractive for FPL managers to invest as the Blues don’t even have a fixture for gameweeks 24 and 25. The Blues are currently not in the best form, dropping points in numerous unnecessary ways. It initially looked like Reece James and Antonio Rudiger would be mainstays in our fantasy teams all season long, but the center-back’s numbers have dwindled, while the full-back is out with a hamstring injury for atleast a few weeks.
Just when Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell was looking like a worthy option, the Englishman injured himself and was ruled out for the season, giving us FPL managers a serious replacement dilemma. At the moment, the only Chelsea players we can suggest you to keep an eye out for are Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount. The duo is currently Tuchel’s first choice up front and will have ample opportunities to score big points. If you are one for taking risks, Romelu Lukaku could go on a seriously strong as a response to his recent comments, but get him in only if you can afford him without disturbing other positions in your team.
Make smart choices, and prosper. Happy pickings, FPL managers!
