Champions League Man of the Match: UEFA Champions League 2020/21 Final- Manchester City vs Chelsea

Another intriguing European competition comes to an end, with Chelsea emerging champions in Porto, with Alley Sport bringing the Champions League Man of the Match.

Manchester City and Chelsea battled each other in an interesting all-English Champions League final, where the London Club beat their fierce rivals Manchester City 1-0, to lift their 2nd Champions League title, after their heroics in Munich in 2012. Chelsea showed their dominance in European football, after surge in their form post Frank Lampard, where their new manager Thomas Tuchel rejuvenated the side and led them to a title, which seemed unlikely at the start of the season.

Chelsea came into the game as underdogs, as the London club had a slight dip in form prior to the final, and also lost the FA Cup final to Leicester City a couple of weeks back. Chelsea had a strong start to the final in Porto, with Timo Werner missing a golden opportunity in the first 10 minutes of the game, as Pep Guardiola and his team were unable to match the Chelsea intensity.

Chelsea finally went ahead, courtesy of a brilliant Mason Mount defense splitting pass, with Kai Havertz collecting the ball and scoring 1 on 1 against Ederson, a goal which sealed the title for the Blues, a massive heartbreak for Pep Guardiola who has never lost in the Champions League final before, and reached this stage for the first time in 10 years, the last being the 2011 win against Manchester United at Wembley, with his former club FC Barcelona.

The man of the match was undoubtedly N’Golo Kante, the French midfielder, who was the engine of the Chelsea team, and the catalyst of the Chelsea’s victorious European journey. Despite being the shortest player on the pitch, N’Golo Kante won the most aerial duels in the game. Kante had the most ball recoveries on the field (10 recoveries), and did not concede a single foul in the entire game, an European final-winning worth performance.
