BCCI’s latest news on Rohit Sharma

According to reports, BCCI went on to conduct a conference call with Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri to sort things about the statements given by the Indian captain on the availability of Rohit Sharma. Chief Selector Sunil Joshi and members of NCA were also present in the meeting and the decision on Rohit is to be taken on December 11. It is believed that the miscommunication between Virat Kohli and Rohit was the reason behind the conference call.

Rohit Sharma picked up a hamstring injury during the IPL and missed four games. The squad for Australian tour was selected and Rohit wasn’t picked in any of the squads owing to the injury. The same day he was seen practicing in Mumbai Indians nets and infact, was back in the Mumbai team soon for the playoff stages. It was really confusing to see Rohit playing the IPL inspite of the risks involved with the injury and if he is fit again, why wasn’t he picked up for the Australia tests? Raised a lot of eyebrows.

Virat had informed the BCCI about returning to India after the first test at Adelaide and Rohit after his IPL stint was added to the test squads. But he failed to travel with the squad to Australia and was sent to the NCA to undergo rehabilitation. Doubts were raised if he could be back in time for the tests soon considering the quarantine period and the flights availability, and as a result he was ruled out of the first two tests. This is BCCI’s latest news on Rohit Sharma that is out there.

Confusion over his availability

Virat Kohli’s pre match interview showed the people about the miscommunication on Rohit’s incident. He stated that “Before we had the selection meeting in Dubai, we had got an email two days before that, which said that he is unavailable for selection as he has picked an injury during the IPL. And it mentioned there was a two-week rest and rehab period. The pros and cons and the implications of the injury has been explained to him and he understood that. And he was unavailable for selection. BCCI’s latest news on Rohit Sharma is unclear, and we don’t know how true it is.

That was the information we got on mail before the selection meeting. After that he played in the IPL, so we all thought he would be on that flight to Australia, which he wasn’t. And we had no information whatsoever on the reason on why he is not traveling with us.”

Rohit could have been on the flight where the likes of Wriddhiman Saha who despite being injured had also travelled with the Indian team for the tests and is expected to recover in time but now Rohit even if he is fit, is more likely to miss the entire test series due to the pandemic protocols and lack of nets sessions. India have already lost the three match ODI series 2-0 to Australia and Rohit is being immensely missed in the tour.
