In today’s Avfc transfer news talks about Chelsea loanee Ross Barkley who had played some decent games linking up with Villa Skipper Jack Grealish in games vs Arsenal and the 7-2 dismantling of Liverpool. But the 26-year old caught a hamstring injury on November 21 of last year and has been out for a while now, but Villa Boss Dean Smith breaks the news on Barkley’s fitness in which he said the the player was “very close” to return on Boxing Day against Crystal Palace however, more than a week on, it’s evident that Barkley’s still not right.

Barkley missed the fixture against his parent club at Stamford Bridge on Monday and sat out once more of Villa’s latest defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Smith revealed. “He hasn’t had enough minutes on the training ground but I fully expect him to be ready for our next Premier League game (Spurs, January 13). I’m not sure if I’ll start him in the FA Cup game (vs Liverpool next week). He needs more minutes on the training ground.” There have been some solid rumours about his permanent transfer and Villa may be looking to go ahead with this move in this transfer window.

The Lions have got Inter’s Uruguayan midfielder on their radar, The player has missed the first half of the season as he had injured his knee and under-went surgery and is now currently training individually for recovery and Smith seems interested in the man and was quoted saying “We are looking at it in general in terms of whether there is anything we need to do .We are certainly not desperate in terms of players we need to bring in or go out. We have our finger on the pulse but I don’t envisage us doing an awful lot, to be honest.”

Smith added: “January windows are difficult. But yeah, it is going to be a pragmatic approach. We have a number of games until we get to January and a number of games in January.

“We will see how it goes but Johan certainly has his fingers on the pulse.”

Vecino has 100 appearances for Inter and has also featured in the world cup with Uruguay and there seems to be interest from a number of clubs. The transfer fee expected for him will range from 15-20 million euros.
